The Lake Orion Village Council voted Monday night to allow the Downtown Development Authority to reschedule their annual Resolution Run for this Saturday morning on the downtown streets.
The race was originally scheduled for Jan. 1, but was postponed because of a snowstorm.
Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 19), the race offers two options: a 5K for the serious runners, and a 1-mile fun run. The race routes circle throughout the historical downtown district.
The DDA was expecting a big hike from the 250 runners that participated last year, and hopes the rescheduled date won’t deter too many participants.
In addition to world-class runners and members of local high school cross-country teams in the 5K race, the 1-mile event attracts competitors in the 12-and-under age category, plus joggers and walkers of all ages, including some with their dogs and baby carriages.
Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each of the following categories: Open, Senior (40+) and 12 & under. The winner in each group will receive a $25 gift certificate from Hanson’s Running Shop.
The runner with the best overall time in the 5K will also receive a $100 gift certificate from the DDA, good at 26 participating downtown stores and restaurants.
Participation ribbons will be provided to everyone in the 12 & under category.
The New Year’s Resolution Run is made possible through the sponsorship of local businesses, including Hanson’s Running Shop, Tool Sport & Sign, Lucky’s Natural Foods, The Lake Orion Review, Turner Sanitation, CJ’s Lakeside Grill and the Village Trophy Shop.
Registration forms are available on-line at www.downtownlakeorion.org, under ‘events,? or at Hanson’s Running Shops, Lucky’s Natural Foods, Paint Creek Bicycles and the DDA office at 51 N. Broadway.
Entry fees are $15 for pre-registered 5K runners and $12 for pre-registered 1-milers and kids under 12.
Race Day registration at 51 N. Broadway begins at 9 a.m. and is $20 for everyone who has not pre-registered. Shirts will be provided while quantities last.
