Our Doctors Make House Calls is the slogan for DRS, an in-home health care clinic geared toward providing quality medical care to senior citizens in the comfort of their own home.
On Friday, Aug. 14, Dennis MacMath, a marketing associate for DRS, spoke with a group of seniors at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center in downtown Oxford. He interwove personal stories about his family’s experience with doctors with information about DRS during his presentation about the type of in home health care that DRS provides.
MacMath noted that one important thing about DRS meeting in the home is that the patient has the ability to be listened to, which sometimes doesn’t happen in doctor’s office. He also noted that it can help ease the stress of having to find someone to give them a ride to the doctor if they are not able to drive themselves.
Located in Southfield, Michigan, DRS has seen over 900 patients throughout the state in the past 12 years.
The staff of seven doctors are diverse in practice, age and ethnicity. Dr.’s Danielle Schramm, Moses Muzquiz Jr., Barbara A Menzies, Anuradha Mulpuri, Hina Singh, Houssam Fadlallah and Marjorie Almeda specialize in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Geriatric Specialists and Cardiologists.
There is no additional cost to the patient for this in home health care. According to MacMath, DRS works with most major insurances, Medicare and Medicaid to insure that there is no additional cost.
After each visit, the doctor will share the information that they learned with the patient’s current doctor.
‘The doctor that arrives in your home does not take the place of your current doctor, but he works hand-in-hand. They do testing in the home in terms of blood pressure, diabetes etc.,? he said.
‘When our doctors make home visits, they empower the patient…the doctor is there in order for them to relax and speak about and show them what is and what isn’t working, what is comfortable and isn’t comfortable,? said MacMath.
