Brandon Twp.- A 74-year-old retired physician was killed May 24 in a multi-vehicle crash on M-15.
According to Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reports, at approximately 8:31 a.m., May 24, Dr. Nabil Awad El-Shamaa, a Troy resident, was driving a 2001 Acura northbound when the driver of a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country van turned left in front of him in the 900 block of S. Ortonville Road.
El-Shamaa’s vehicle struck the Chrysler, then went left of center and struck a southbound 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck driven by a 33-year-old Texas resident.
Both El-Shamaa and the Texas resident were transported to Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc. El-Shamaa was pronounced deceased at the hospital at 9:21 a.m. The Texas resident was listed in stable condition.
The driver of the Chrysler, a 31-year-old Holly resident, had four children in her vehicle, all under the age of 6. None of the occupants of the Chrysler were injured.
Alcohol and/or cell phone use does not appear to have been a factor in this crash. All occupants of vehicles involved were wearing seat belts. M-15 was closed for about three hours near the scene of the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
