Two local skiers concluded outstanding seasons by being named among the best high school skiers in the state.
Kyle Powers and Kim Thrush, both of Ortonville, were named to the All-State ski teams by the Michigan High School Ski Coaches Association (MHSSA), based on their performances at the state meet in Marquette in March.
Both Powers and Thrush are freshmen at Notre Dame Preparatory High School in Pontiac. Thrush’s father, Jerry, is an assistant with the ND Prep ski team.
Powers, who could not be reached for comment as of press time, was named to the second team for giant slalom, finishing in 10th place in that event in the state meet. He also finished 24th in the slalom at the meet.
Meanwhile, Thrush was named to the second team for slalom and third team for giant slalom, finishing 12th at the state meet in the slalom and 15th in the giant slalom.
Thrush, 15, got started in the sport at a relatively young age.
