Track team wins first OAA title

Neither Friday the 13th nor the hot and humid weather could slow down the varsity boys track and field team as they dominated the Oakland Activities Association White Division and won their first OAA league title.
This coming in their first season in the league.
Oxford would win the meet by 84 points, racking up an astounding 175 points. Southfield finished in second with 91 points.
The Wildcats put the division on notice when they swept the shot put event and took first and third in the discus throw. Sir Ralph Rodriguez finished first in the shot put (53 feet, seven and a half inches) and discus throw (144 feet, 11 inches). Collin Goetz was second in the shot put (48 feet, one inch) and Prescott Line was third in shot put (46 feet, 11 inches).
Ken Coffman finished third for the Wildcats in discus with his throw of 129 feet, six inches.
The Wildcat runners also played their part with Darren Lunpkin coming in first in the 100 meter dash (10.75). Lumpkin also finished second in the 200 meter dash.
Aaron Stuk came in first in the 300 meter hurdles (39.87) while teammate Terrence Webb finished second (40.94) in the event.
The 800 meter run saw teammates Anthony Cappuccilli (2:03.75) and Curtis Kocher (2:04.4) finish first and third respectively.
Dylan Smith also took first in the 3200 meter run finishing with a time of 10:06.3.
The 800 meter relays (1:30.12) and the 1600 meter relays (3:27.62) finished first as well.
Meanwhile, the girls finished fourth at the OAA league championship, finishing with a total of 77.5 points, half a point behind third place Birmingham Seaholm.
Farmington Hills Harrison won the event with 128.5 points.
Brooke Kovacic dominated the distances, winning the 1600 meter run in 5:26.7, five seconds ahead of second place, and won by 19 seconds in the 3200 meter run (11:28.4).
The 3200 meter relay also finished first with a time of 9:49.7. This was the second time this season the relay team broke 10 minutes, a goal that Coach Blunk had for them this season.
Up next for the varsity teams is the MHSAA regional at Brandon on Friday, May 20.
