The Lake Orion Village Council will interview candidates on Saturday, with the special meeting beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Forty-one resumes were submitted during the two-month process, and the council agreed to invite seven candidates in for interviews.
Two of the candidates selected declined to proceed with the interview process.
Those remaining are Tori D. Kelly, Kevin Mackey, Paul Zelenak, Patrick Burelle and Jeff Mirate.
Three of the candidates currently reside in Michigan, while one lives in Illinois and another in Wisconsin. All will be traveling to the interviews on their own expense.
Clerk/Interim Manager Arlene Nichols said the first interview is scheduled for 9:15 a.m., though it could be moved up if all involved agree.
The special meeting is slated to run into the early afternoon, with the final interview scheduled, at press time, for 1 p.m.
Nichols said it is the third manager hiring process for the village since she became clerk. During her time, the council has never selected a manager at the interview meeting, though it is possible.
During their regular meeting last week, the council voted on some modifications to the village manager’s proposed employment agreement.
The modifications, which included a scaled-back graduated severance package, an extra week of compensatory time, a quarterly review process in the first year of service, no benefits after the termination of the contract and a requirement that the manager attend all council, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Downtown Development Authority and Parks & Recreation Committee meetings, among other things, must now be approved by the village’s labor attorney.
