Walk-off: Softball sweeps Andover

Solid team defense paved the way for the Lake Orion softball team on Monday, and the end result was a sweep of Andover.
The Dragons took the first game 6-2, and went to extra innings to get the second win 2-1.
‘This was a very good experience playing extra innings,? Dragon Coach Denny Davis said. ‘We got the strikeout when we needed it, good defensive plays when we needed them and the big hit when we needed it.?
The big hit came off the bat of Sasha Perryman, who opened the bottom half of the ninth inning with a double.
‘Sasha was told to drive it over the fence, be she tried to drive it right through it,? Davis said of Perryman’s shot to left.
After pinch-runner Sydney Fortin entered the game, freshman Jessica Bays hit the very next pitch into left for a game-winning RBI single.
‘Bays has come a long way,? Davis said, also praising the play of right fielder Shawmee Davey, who had a hit and an RBI in the third inning.
Danielle Dunn got the win in both games for the Dragons, striking out 10 in the nightcap, for a total of 18 in 16 innings of work. She allowed just 10 hits on the day.
‘Danielle pitched well today,? Davis said, noting it was nice to see his ace rebound from a tough weekend outing at the Michigan Stars Tournament.
The Dragons went 2-3 at the two-day event, recording wins over Lutheran Northwest and West Bloomfield, while falling to eventual champion Grosse Pointe North as well as Grand Blank and Utica Ford.
Lake Orion split a doubleheader against Rochester last week to bring their league mark to 3-1 with a big doubleheader looming against Waterford Kettering this afternoon.
The Dragons are 11-5 overall.
