Jonathan was slowing down in his playing in the open room in the new house on Sunday.
After nearly a year I knew the signs of my baby boy – he was also getting cranky and cranky tired, not cranky hungry. If I didn’t act quick the smiling infant would go into scream vocal mode.
I picked him up, sought out his pacifier and we sat down in the corner nook of the couch. I placed one of his blankets on him, a soft blanket handmade from his cousin, Sidney.
He closed his eyes and I watched for a few minutes – the rosy cheeks, long lashes, little round nose. I could easily move him from my arms to the pack-and-play. I could easily move him and could conquer the growing to-do list before his birthday on Saturday.
But there will always be boxes to unpack , things to do, errands to run. In this moment he is still small enough to curl in mom’s arms and fall asleep. For one day he will be too big and pushing my arms away to go play. These moments, as small as they may be for some, are big moments right now.
So all the things to do before his birthday celebration waited and it will get done before he turns one-year-old on Saturday, when he has his birthday party – Winter Wonderland. Hopefully if it snows, it will stick this time. Plus, if it did it would add to the fun of the Holiday Lights Parade in downtown Clarkston on Saturday night.
JD has had quite a few adventures in Clarkston. Though he can’t tell all of you himself, he says thank you to the community for welcoming him at all the events. He enjoyed watching his first parade in Clarkston on Fourth of July and going to Clintonwood Park afterwards. Then, watching cardboard boats race (and sink) during Rush Regatta. He enjoyed the characters at the Friendly Forest.
He also had fun coming out for the spring sports practices, Rush for Food, Clarkston Chiefs games and senior night for Clarkston Boys Varsity Soccer.
JD also attended his first signing and witnessed what happens when hard work and a dream pays off for athletes. He also went to his first Clarkston High School girls basketball games. He apologizes to the Lady Wolves for getting fussy as it was getting close to his bedtime (which is why he missed football games.)
