Winter Guard finishes successful season

In only their second year of competition, the Lake Orion Peformance Ensemble, also known as the LOHS Winter Color Guard, has a lot to be proud of.
The team recently competed in the Michigan Color Guard Circuit’s State Finals at Saginaw Valley State University on April 5.
‘Their performance was outstanding and their score earned them second-place in the state,? said Lake Orion High School Band Director Mike Steele. ‘This is truly an outstanding achievement considering that this is only their second year of competition.?
The team finished their season, which Steele deemed ‘outstanding,? last week with a performance at Winter Guard International’s National Finals competition in Dayton, Ohio.
‘Their performance was the best that they had done all year,? Steele said, noting that, unfortunately, the judges did not give them high enough scores to advance on to the semifinals or, ultimately, the finals.
Steele credited the guard’s coaches, Eddie Hennessey, Caitlynn Palmer and Ben Clark, for their hardwork in both designing and teaching a ‘program that would allow the students to be as successful as possible.?
‘The students worked extremely hard all year and have served notice that this is a top-notch color guard program at Lake Orion High School,? he added.
