Wolfpack Update for September 11, 2024

Clarkston Girls Golf
The Clarkston Girls JV Golf team improved to 7-2 for the season with wins over Rochester, Lake Orion and Oxford.
The Wolves defeated against Rochester at home, 225-246. Sophomore Grace Johnston led with a 47 in her round, also scoring for Clarkston were junior Skylar Drinkard, freshman Eva Duch, and sophomore Madison Ziesmer.
The Wolves avenged their earlier loss to Lake Orion with a 5-stroke win over the Dragons at Boulder Pointe, 207-212. Scorers for that round were sophomore Ava Ebling, junior Addy Selden, junior Camryn Boisvert and senior Skylar Kelly.
Clarkston had a double match last Thursday as they were home against Oxford and away against Troy. Bringing home the win against Oxford was Johnston with another 47, along with Ebling, Sabrina Kevelighan and Elly Ryan. In a tough loss to Troy at Sylvan Glen, seniors Skylar Kelly and Allison Goodrich stood out with solid rounds.
“Home course advantage is quite a real thing,” said Nikole Carlson, head coach for the JV team. “We play a lot of rounds at Pine Knob Golf Club. We know the land. We know the safe zones. We’re getting into the part of the season with more away matches, and we have to remember to read the course and play accordingly. Some shorter courses have given us trouble. This JV team can hit, they love to drive the ball. That’s not always an option on a shortened course, as we learned this week at Troy.
Carlson added the team had three away matches this week.
“I’m so fortunate to help these girls develop their golf game. It’s a game of repetition, the more you play, the better you’re naturally going to get. I’ve seen so much progress from them and we are just now at our halfway point of the season. Can’t wait to see us finish strong,” she said.
