WWII-era photo album found at Flint recycling plant, owner sought

A Flint man is hoping to find the owner of a personal photo album that ended up in his sorting line at the CBC Recycling plant last week.
Roger Hite was sorting through the usual items at the Flint plant when he came across a 10 by 7-inch green album with the word ‘photographs? etched on the cover.
His curiosity peaked.
‘When I looked at it, I couldn’t believe somebody would actually throw that away,? he said. ‘It was crazy.?
Inside were old photos attached to black construction paper pages. The photos feature a young man who Hite believes attended Oxford High School.
The photos that grace the pages include ones from prom taken in front of the old high school (which used to be located on N. Washington St. where Fire Station #1 is now), a 1941 OHS basketball team photo and his family with a pet dog.
The album then jumps to photos of the man in what appears to be an U.S. Army uniform in his barracks, as well as down in Florida on the beach with his girlfriend.
More are shown of him and his wife cutting the cake at their wedding, followed by photos of his children.
‘They’re wonderful pictures,? Hite said.
Hite decided the album was too genuine to just toss into the trash and decided to call the Leader for help.
‘In my heart, I know it had to have been a mistake (that it got thrown out),? he said. ‘People just don’t throw them away.?
Hite is on a mission to get the photo album back to its rightful owner, and if they don’t want it, he imagines the school district would like the photos placed at the historical museum downtown.
Although this isn’t the first time Hite has seen memorable items like this come down the conveyor belt, it still shocks him every time.
‘I just can’t figure out why people throw that stuff away,? he said.
