Hot Blues kicks off at Casa Real

Mexican restaurants are normally noted for their hot food, but downtown Oxford’s Casa Real served up some hot blues music Saturday night.
The popular restaurant played host to the Hot Blues and BBQ Kick-off Party and May meeting of the Detroit Blues Society.
Live performances by Lady Sunshine and the X-band and Luther ‘Badman? Keith kept the joint jumping and got the crowd revved up for Oxford’s blues festival next month.
The second annual Hot Blues and BBQ festival will return to the village Friday, June 23 through Sunday, June 25 with musical acts in both Centennial and Scripter parks.
The June 23 (Zydeco Music and Cajun food) and June 25 (Gospel Bluesfest) concerts in Centennial Park are free to the public.
June 24 will feature 11 blues bands at Scripter Park competing in the kick-off event of the annual Motor City Breakdown, a competition to determine the best blues band in Metro Detroit.
Tickets for Saturday’s festivities are $10 per person or $25 for a family ticket.
Ten BBQ vendors, a beer tent, swimming in Round Lake and loads of fun on the playground await festival-goers at Scripter Park.
