$32,758 for city-wide street, welcome signs

Clarkston City Council voted 6-0, Dec. 9, to accept a recommendation from its Sign Committee to have ASI Signage Innovations make and install new signs throughout the city, for $32,758.
Bids were also received from Northern Sign Co of Auburn Hills for $49,633; and Aver Sign Company of Ferndale for $57,581.
The project includes 31 street signs throughout the city, three 60-by-27.5-inch welcome signs, three 32-by-14.75-inch welcome signs, a wayfinding sign, with directions to village hall, Depot Park, and parking, 12 extra posts, and installation.
The signs will include a decorative accent in the shape of a water wheel, referring to Clarkston’s history as a mill town.
The city has $8,500 remaining of $10,000 budgeted for signs in 2019. Funding could be done in two phases, starting with the entry and wayfinding signs, then the street signs. They will look into using revenue from the city parking lot. The Dec. 9 approval is conditional upon an acceptable recommendation from the Finance Committee for funding and timing. The Historic District Commission will also review the plan, said City Manager Jonathan Smith.
City Council approved conceptual design in July and the bid package in November, and the Sign Committee selected the bid from ASI Signage Innovations of Troy on Dec. 3.
