The Clarkston High School Class of 1969 celebrated their 50th Reunion beginning on Oct. 3 with a gathering at the Woodshop.
The actual reunion was on Oct. 4 at the Fountains, which was attended by 107 alumni.
“We were shocked and pleasantly surprised by how Clarkston had grown, which led us to agree to buy a brick from Thom Tillier (for the garden on Washington at Main), which will forever put our mark on Clarkston, which will read, ‘We are cool, We are fine, We are the CHS Class of 1969,'” said alumni Karen Craft Crawford. “Thanks to all of our classmates who traveled to celebrate CHS.”
The alumni were treated to an appetizer buffet and danced to a DJ and live music provided by Dean Poeppe. They celebrated with their signature drink “the Bahama Mamma.”
On Oct. 5, they toured the old high school, which is now Clarkston Junior High, and then moved onto the new high school. In the evening, they continued with a gathering at Mr. B’s Roadhouse.
Classmates came from all over the country including Colorado, Florida, Arizona, California, Alaska, and Tennessee – some had not been back to Clarkston in 50 years.
Organizers included Crawford, Cindy Ford Getzan, Pam Compton Thompson, Jolene Schultz Boggs, Maryann Hennig, Terrie Gates Smallwood, Shari Jadwin Thompson, Rick Sartell, Craig Hutchins, Doug Green, Dean Poeppe and Jim Ventimiglia.
“We would like to thank the Woodshop for their hospitality, the Fountains, especially Beth and Nichole for helping us plan this event, Mary Ellen Rowe, and Adam Kern for the informative and wonderful tours of the schools,” Crawford said. ” Also Mr. B’s Roadhouse for allowing us to have our space.”
