Rite Aid, 5789 Ortonville Road, hosts its third annual Children’s Carnival on April 30 from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.
“All proceeds benefit Beaumont Children’s Hospital, which is part of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals,” said Store Manager Laura Glinka. “The first year we raised roughly $1,000 and the second year, $1,500, and it was bad weather, so this year we’re hoping for more.”
She noted the largest part of their donations come from in-store donations. When customers donate one dollar, Glinka said they receive $7 worth of coupons.
“We’ll take loose change,” she said. “It all adds up.”
The event includes face-paintings, car show, and over 30 business vendors, including food trucks from Andiamos, Kona Ice, Hot off the Iron, and Mystic Kettle, as well as a D.J.
“The D.J. really gets the crowd going and it’s a lot of fun,” said Rite Aid worker Jessica Anderson.
There is also a variety of kids’ games, sponsored by Clarkston Cross-Fit and Robert Zarins, who is a magician, comedian and escape artist being sponsored in part by Bill’s Custom Canvas.
“I think it’s a great thing they’re doing and we’re glad to help,” said owner Bill Otto. “It’s nice to help the community, if you can.”
Rite Aid worker Beverly Weddle said it’s their way of showing the community that they care.
“It brings our store workers together and helps the moral of the store,” she said. “It’s something fun to look forward to.”
Rite Aid has been an official sponsor of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since 1994 and has raised a total of $73 million corporate-wide.
Weddle noted Rite Aid will also be participating in the M-15 Hertiage Route Clarkston to Bay City Garage Sale on May 7. Vendor spaces are available for $10 and all money will go towards the Beaumont Children’s Hospital as well.
