Angels’ Place Race, a 5k/10k run in Clarkston, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year with its annual event on Saturday, May 13.
The race, which begins and ends at St. Daniel’s Church, includes a 10k run, 5k run/walk, and 1-mile family fun run. In addition to medals for top finishers in each category, lots of door prizes are up for grabs from sponsors throughout the community.
New this year, the top male and female finishers in this year’s 10k race will each receive a $100 gift card, courtesy of Runnin’ Gear in Waterford.
“We are excited to be holding the 10th annual Angels’ Place Race in Clarkston again this year,” said Paul Maxwell, race director. “With the community’s support, we are able to offer a unique setting for a fun and challenging race that attracts runners and walkers from all over Oakland County and beyond, all to support a worthwhile organization.”
The first Angels’ Place Race included a 5k race and 1-mile walk and attracted 130 participants. Since then, the race has grown to accommodate over 400 runners and walkers across four events – 10k run, 5k run, 5k walk, and 1-mile family fun walk. In addition, the race has been certified by the Michigan Fitness Foundation for the last two years.
Over the last decade, Angels’ Place Race has raised approximately $200,000 to support Angel’s Place, a Southfield-based non-profit organization that provides homes and services for adults with developmental disabilities. Twenty residential homes currently located in Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb counties offer residents a family environment focused on dignity, acceptance, and personal well-being and growth.
Walk-up registration will be available at St. Daniel’s Church in Clarkston Friday, May 12 from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday, May 13 before the race, starting at 7:30 a.m. The 10k race begins at 9:15, the 5k race at 9:30, and the 1-mile family fun walk at 10 a.m.
