15 years ago – 2002
“Thousands turn out for crafts festival” Fall officially kicked off during the weekend with the 28th Annual Crafts and Cider Festival. An estimated 5,000-10,000 people attended the event held by the Clarkston Community Historical Society.
“Raisin’ funds and havin’ fun” Bailey Lake Elementary held their Fun Fair, a Parent Teacher Association fundraiser, where 500 people enjoyed games and treats including cotton candy.
“Clarkston stamp collector looks to start local club” Fritz Spademan was looking for locals who shared his hobby of stamp collecting and was hoping to start a club. He started collecting stamps December 1941 when he found out President Franklin D. Roosevelt was an avid stamp collector.
25 years ago – 1992
“Teachers get 4.5 percent increase for two years” Clarkston Community School teachers received a 4.5 percent salary increase per year for two years in their new contract ratified on Sept. 28.
“Among the best” Clarkston High School seniors Stacy Galazin, Shea Kammer, Adam Pastor and Luke Windram were among 15,000 semifinalists in the 1993 Merit Scholarship competition. Their high scores as juniors in the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test put them in the upper two percent of all students in America.
“Soccer team shuts out three straight opponents” Clarkston Boys Varsity Soccer team shut out Flint Southwestern, 5-0; Waterford Kettering, 1-0; and Waterford Mott in three consecutive games to put their overall record 5-4-1. Wolf Nathan Forbes was in the goal for each win to put his season shutouts at four.
50 years ago – 1967
“Still closed” An application to operate the area dump on M-15 north of Clarkston was made by Larry Powell of Clarkston. The application went to the Oakland County Health Department.
“Edna Profrock retires from Ortonville bank after 41 years” Edna Profrock reported for her last day of work after 41 years at Genesee Merchants Bank & Trust Company. She rose from assistant cashier to vice president.
“Clarkston outlasts Bloomfield” The Clarkston Varsity Football team triumphed over Bloomfield Andover, 13-7.
