The weather forecast looks decent for Saturday right now, with clear skies and 29 degrees. Hopefully that holds out for the Holiday Lights Parade, Saturday evening downtown.
I’ll be trying my luck with my camera, hoping to get decent photos of colorfully lit parade floats and vehicles in the 6 p.m. darkness. It’s always a bit hit and miss.
I missed the year with the sci-fi theme, with folks running around in Star Wars stormtrooper armor and TIE fighter floats, but this year’s theme of stars shining on Clarkston sounds cool.
The cast and crew of Clarkston Village Players’ upcoming show “Laura” have been hard at work for several weeks, learning their lines and blocking, getting their characterizations down.
I have a small role in it, so small I didn’t show up for rehearsal until last week. My absence may have been noticed a bit.
“Wait, are you Phil?” asked actress Brenda Lehman, who plays Laura herself in the show.
I’m thinking perhaps my name has come up in cast conversations, as in, “where is that guy and is he ever going to show up?”
It really is a small role, more of a cameo. I’ll be helping out backstage, too.
This is my third season with the players, and my fifth time on stage, my sixth if you include my backstage work in “Leading Ladies” last spring.
I’ll try out for bigger parts in shows next year. Coming up next are auditions for “Something to Hide” on Dec. 16-17. Lots of good roles in that one – Howard Holt, a good looking man with more than a fair share of virile charm; Inspector Davies, middle-aged family man with a likeable grin and a deceptive gentleness of manner; and Will Purdie, a little grizzled man who owns the local auto service shop. For the ladies, Julie, attractive and vivacious; Karen Holt, well-groomed, intelligent, strong, but vulnerable; Stella the maid, a local girl, pretty, and full of self-confidence; and Miss Cunningham, middle aged spinster, and a bit of a busy body.
“Laura” opens on Jan. 11, and runs weekends through Jan. 26.
“Something to Hide” runs March 8-23. Contact Director Jim Pike at 248-705-6849 or busterbillie@hotmail.com for audition info.
