15 years ago – 2004
“Kid Rock, Palace donate $60,000 to finish spraypark” After a year of fundraising and generous community support, the Spraypark and Clintonwood met its goal thanks to a $60,000 donation from Kid Rock and officials from Palace Sports and Entertainment.
“Human bones found in Springfield” It would take 8-10 months to evaluate DNA evidence, but Oakland County Sheriff investigators believed human bones found in Springfield Township, in a wooded area off of Ware Road near Andersonville Road, belonged to a man missing since 1995.
“Claus takes over as tennis coach” Clarkston High School history teacher Chas Claus started his first year as the boys varsity tennis head coach after being the JV coach.

25 years ago – 1999
“Easter treat” Three-year-old Quinn Moralee was one of the lucky kids picking out one of the 300 Easter baskets made by Lighthouse North. Quinn left with a basket almost as big as him.
“Growth spurt continues” New residential development seemed to be in the midst of its second dramatic growth spurt as there were 258 permits for new, single-family homes issued in Independence Township in 1993. During 1992, there were 197 permits issues.
“Principals remember SMS as it turns 25” Sashabaw Middle School celebrated its 25th anniversary and its four past and present principals, Gus Birtas, Jean Lang, Dave Reschke and Mel Vaara took a tour of the school and reminisced about the previous 25 years.

50 years ago – 1969
“Youths admits armed hold-up” A 14-year-old and 16-year-old were arrested and plead guilty to armed robbery of the Richardson Dairy on M-15 in Clarkston. Two .22 caliber revolvers were used as the youths took $400.
“Choir travels” The second annual concert tour of the Youth Choir of Marantha Baptist church began. The choir, with 38 teenagers from Clarkston and Pontiac, planned to sing during concerts in Nebreska and Kansas.
“Around the town” Oh, boy! It was a boy for Mr. and Mrs. Don Spangler, born three minutes before midnight on March 30 weighing seven pounds and 10 ounces. Grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. John Witherup and Mr. and Mrs. Jewell
