15 years ago – 2004
“Campaigning for credit” Members of Clarkston High School’s Advanced Placement Government class went beyond textbooks as they worked with a specific election campaign or helped with the election to have a better understanding of the election process and political parties.
“Children climb aboard new Springfield library train” The Springfield Township Library commemorated the arrival of their new children’s playset by throwing a full on train extravaganza.
“Girls cross country flex a little muscle” The Clarkston Girls Cross Country team dominated the competition en route to their fourth consecutive league championship. Liz Mengyan won the race by setting a Bloomer Park course record of 18:12.

25 years ago – 1994
“Courthouse called a total loss” Crews were still putting out a fire at 52-2 District Court at 8 a.m. after it broke out on Devil’s Night. Sgt. Robert Gohl, of the sheriff’s department, believed the fire was electrical in nature and noted that plastic, recessed lighting had dropped, melted to the floor.
“Scary but oh-so-sweet” Vampires, witches and all sorts of scary little people filled the halls of Springfield Plains Elementary for the annual Treat or Treat Street by Independence Township Parks and Recreation.
“Domination of Orion leads to playoffs” After a season long struggle to make the state playoffs, the Clarkston Varsity Football team succeeded their task with a 33-0 win over Lake Orion. Clarkston had its first playoff team since 1977.

50 years ago – 1969
“Barrow of pumpkins” Five-year-old Tracy, with his mom, Mrs. M. Dean Callison, and 2-year-old sister, Joy, admire a wheelbarrow full of pumpkins in Ernest Garwold’s yard, off Clarkston Road.
“Schools vandalized” Clarkston Elementary was the scene of vandalism over the weekend as a total of 21 windows were smashed by rock throwers. Also, the new junior high building on Sashabaw was defaced with spray paint on Monday evening.
“Around the town” Rusty Leaf was the hero of the Thursday night bonfire at the high school. When she arrived to take pictures there was no sign of makings for the fire so she gathering them up and it was one of the best.
