WHAT ‘MATT’ERS: What season is it?

Living in Michigan can be the butt of jokes for numerous reasons.
The biggest one is the weather, where residents never really know when to put away their winter wardrobe because for all we know, we’ll need it in June.
Same with the summer gear. Keep it out. We might need it around the holidays.
We’ve heard this ad nauseum for years upon years. We get it! This is Michigan, people!
Any time the weather deviates from sunny and 70 degrees, folks forget how to drive, folks complain about the weather, and social media blows up. Again, you’re how old?
It’s tough. I get that. In my opinion, the seasonal confusion only helps the days go by.
For example, it seems like the school year just started. Well, that was more than six months ago. And about three months to go until summer vacation. Or whatever season we may be dealing with in June, right?
It has to be close to spring because the Tigers are in spring training getting ready for what most think will be another horrid season. And the Red Wings haven’t won 20 games yet and most of those guys are planning golf excursions. The Lions have a prime spot in next month’s NFL Draft and the Pistons are still playing, I believe. So with spring here at some point, does that mean summer can’t be too far behind?
Personally, the spring and summer months are chaotic for us with all three kids involved in various sports and school activities, work responsibilities for my wife and I, appointments, keeping the house in order, remembering to eat, sleep and breathe, and trying to remember what day it is so we know what field the kids are playing at or who is picking up which kid from which school.
Our three bundles of joy and spread out through high school, middle school and elementary school. Makes for quite an adventure, if I do say so myself.
This weekend, all five of us are heading down to Disney World to watch Ethan, our oldest, play with the Goodrich High School Marching Band. It should be a great time, and I’m hoping shorts and short-sleeve shirts are the flavor of the day.
At least, I think the trip is this weekend…
