25 years ago – 1995
“Flag-waving” Taylor Ricca and her sister, Brittany, were smiling and flag waving during Clarkston’s annual Fourth of July parade. The parade was sponsored by the Independence Township Firefighters Association and Dr. James O’Neill was the Grand Marshall.
“Design work begins on new high school” Clarkston High School faculty had been meeting during the summer to put together their “wish list” for the new high school to be built on Flemings Lake Road.
“Young singers at Palace” “Charisma,” a girls vocal ensemble from Sashabaw Middle School, performed the National Anthem at the Palace of Auburn Hills at a Detroit Neon soccer game, July 9.

50 years ago – 1970
“Recreation program in full swing” The Independence Township Recreation Summer program was well under way with 39 teams competing in the Little League’s baseball program.
“Lightning strikes area residents” Two area homes were struck by lightning on July 8, 3:50 p.m. It struck the fuse box at the home of Joseph Peason on Townview, and at the same time struck the home of G. Brancheau, around the corner at Langle.
“Around town” Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Roosa and sons, Doug and Dave, of Eastlawn, entertained 39 friends and relatives on the 4th of July at their cabin, which was under construction at Bear Lake.

75 years ago – 1945
“Clarkston 4-H leads in judging” Oakland County 4-H Club members taking completed a class in livestock judging training. High scores in judging were made by Clarkston residents Mary Jo Pettengill, Pat Hoyt, Donna Richards, Marion Emery and Mary Alice Carr.
“Clarkston locals” Billy Shanks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Shanks of South Main Street, celebrated his eighth birthday and entertained friends from the neighborhood. They played games and enjoyed birthday cake and ice cream.
“Our boys and girls in service” Louise Thomas, WAC, of Clarkston, was promoted to the rank of Technician Fifth Grade at McCloskey General Hospital, Temple, Texas, where she was a surgical technician. She had been in service for four months.
