Many years ago, President Abraham Lincoln led the country in uniting in days of prayer and fasting for the nation during the Civil War, held on the last Thursday of September.
This invitation was renewed this year by Father John Riccardo, a priest of the Archdiocese of Detroit. Regardless of religion, the entire nation was invited to participate in a day of prayer and fasting focusing on national unity, personal conversion of heart, and mercy for the United States on Thursday, September 24.
Students at Everest Collegiate High School & Academy joined this year. Father Thomas Salazar, school chaplain, visited each classroom with the Blessed Sacrament. Students were invited to pause, kneel, and take a moment of silent prayer.
