25 years ago – 1996
“Despite protests, redistricting approved” Taking up what it had put off for a year, the Clarkston Board of Education voted 6-1 to send some students to different elementary schools in the fall which included Andersonville and Springfield Plains elementaries.
“How does it feel to drive drunk? Kids find out” Some Clarkston High School students took part in a simulation involving a Dodge Neon with a computer on board which could rig the car to behave as if the student was driving drunk. It was brought to the school by Chrysler Corp. and local dealer Chuck Fortinberry.
“Burklow ‘outstanding’ with three medals at finals” Stefanie Burklow gave an “ironman” performance at the Class A Girls Track State Finals by medaling in three events, something no other distance runner could claim. She finished in fifth place in the 1,600-meter run, with a fifth place finish; sixth, 800-meter run; sixth with her teammates in the 3,200-meter relay.

50 years ago – 1971
“Forensic students to receive awards” The Speech Team had a good season and awards included: Tri-County League second place, State District plaque, and the plaque for winning 75 percent of the team debates in the Oakland Debate Association.
“Dan Fife named senior athlete” Dan Fife added another leaf to his crown of laurel as he was named University of Michigan senior athlete of the year. Fife was singled out for the honor by the Ann Arbor Quarterback Club.
“Around town” Debbie Goyette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Goyette, of North Main Street, was the guest of honor at a bridal shower. Eighteen family members attended.

75 years ago – 1946
“Craftsman’s Guild has competition” Alan Healy, of Pine Knob Road, was among the thousands of youths throughout the United States entered in the 1946 competition of Fisher Body Craftsman’s Guild.
“The Hilltopper” Clarkston High School seniors were back from their trip from Detroit to Chicago, which included stops at Mackinac Island, Escanaba and Sturgeon Bay in Wisconsin.
“Our boys and girls in service” Among those discharged from the naval service on May 28 at the Great Lakes separation center was William A. Foster, S 1/c, of Shappie Road, Clarkston.
