The playground at Bay Court Park will soon be undergoing a facelift to make the popular park more conducive to contemporary standards.
Independence Township Parks, Recreation and Seniors has partnered with Genisys Credit Union to raise funds to build an accessible and inclusive playground at Bay Court Park.
Playgrounds, in many ways, are priceless,” said ITPRS Director Derek Smith. “They help children build memories, encourage activity and socialization, and make people happy. Inclusive playgrounds also give children, parents, and grandparents the opportunity to create wonderful memories, to pursue healthy active lifestyles, and to expand their imaginations through creative play.
“We’re fortunate to have wonderful partners like Genisys Credit Union who understand the value of recreation, community stewardship, and the importance of healthier, happier living for all the people of our community.”
Accessible and inclusive playgrounds are intentionally designed to consider its use by children and adults with varying levels of physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities typically featuring rubber safety surfacing, sensory-friendly equipment, transfer level decking onto playscapes, spaces for quiet independent play, and more with plenty of options for all abilities.
“ITPRS is so excited about this whole process,” said Amy Laboissonniere, ITPRS community relations coordinator. “We can’t wait to have a new playground that has features, options, and components that make it a safe place for all ages and all abilities.”
The Bay Court Park playground was built in 1994 and has long been a major recreational hot spot in the township.
Funds raised will be matched by the Independence Township Board of Trustees up to $100,000.
