15 years ago – 2004
“Foyteck, Patterson win” Incumbent Karen Foyteck far outpaced challengers in the election for Clarkston Community Schools Board of Education with 1,181 votes. Newcomer Joan Patterson finished with 964 votes to take the second spot for four-year terms.
“It’s a silver celebration for this summer’s ‘Concerts’” Clarkston’s “Concerts in the Park” has a lot to celebrate during the 2004 summer as it marks its 25th anniversary. To start the summer, 14-year-old local Raquel Reyes opened for Atlantez Salsa.
“Clarkston softball team takes regional title” The Clarkston Varsity Softball team captured their first regional title under coach Al Land with a 1-0 win over Birmingham Groves. Caitlin McLean hit the game-winning RBI which caused the Wolves’ bench to erupt with smiles and jumps of joy.

25 years ago – 1994
“Surprise state money gives school board new choices” A “gift” of $265,000 in state revenue that was unexpected gave the Clarkston Community Schools budget a little more wiggle room. Trustee Kurt Karlstor, suggested the district eliminate Pay to Participate, which generated $80,000 for the district to help offset the cost of athletics.
“Morgan Lake vote ties” The proposed Morgan Lake, a 285-acre golf and residential development for Maybee Road north of Clintonville, was a 2-2 tie on the project at the Independence Township Planning Commission.
“Young golfers crowd county tournament” Over 200 young golfers competed in the Oakland County Junior Golf tournament. The two-day event included 18 holes at Springfield Oaks and 18 holes at White Lake Oaks.

 

50 years ago – 1969
“Mauti makes move” Dominic Mauti accepted a position as assistant principal at Adams Senior High School in Rochester. Mauti spent 17 years in Clarkston Schools.
“Order further study of off-street parking” A feasibility study would be conducted on proposed off-street parking for Clarkston. The primary area being considered was behind the stores on the east side of Main Street.
“Around town” Jim and Sue Koslowsky were unpacking and arranging their new home on Flemings Lake Road.
