Addison seniors hoping to get Wii system, defibrillator

A computer game wildly popular among children, teenagers and even adults might soon find its way into the hands of senior citizens in Addison Township.
A Nintendo Wii, along with a new computer, television and other upgrades are among the wish-list items contained in a letter requesting the reprogramming of $5,363.59 worth of federal Community Development Block Grant funds allocated in 2005 and 2006
Addison officials approved the letter at their March 16 meeting and have forwarded it to CDBG officials for final approval. If okayed, the program officials will then advise Clerk Pauline Bennett the specifics on how to do the bid procurement.
Besides the Wii, other wish-list items included a 46-inch high-definition television, Bissell vacuum cleaner, Automated External Defibrillator, Dell computer, the installation of a toilet compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, commercial-grade coffee pot and hot and cold water dispenser.
‘The Senior Center reprogram request is meant to increase the activities for seniors on a daily basis,? wrote Bennett in the reprogramming request letter. She added the fire department would provide training for use of the defibrillator.
According to Bennett, the 2005 funds were originally allotted to the senior center, but the requested items have since changed.
The 2006 funds originally were intended for removing architectural barriers at the Addison Township Public Library for doors and entrance ways. Once the job was completed, there were still funds remaining.
‘We thought it would best to use the funds to benefit the senior center,? Bennett explained.
