Athletes top Oakland County Championships

Clarkston High School sophomore Alexandra Brigham finished in the top 20 in her event during the MHSAA Division 1 Track and Field State Championships on Saturday.
She finished in 18th place in the 1,600-meter run in the time of 5:02.01.
Senior Brooke Perry also qualified for the state championship in the 100-meter hurdles. She finished in 22nd place during the prelim races, 17.57.
Clarkston Boys and Girls Track and Field teams wrapped the regular season hosting the 63rd Oakland County Championship, May 27.
Highlights from the day included Brigham finishing in first place in the 3,200-meter run in the time of 11:22.64 and finishing in second place in the 800-meter run, 2:19.64.
Senior Joey Taverna finished his last county meet in second place in the 1,600-meter run in the time of 4:18.64. The girls team finished in fifth place out of 32 teams with 38 points.
Finishes in the track events were: in the 100-meter dash, junior Jurney Harris in fifth place in the time of 12.96; 200-meter dash, freshman Keira Zorski, ninth, 27.48; and 100-meter hurdles, Perry, ninth, 17.22.

The 3,200-meter relay team with Brigham, sophomore Emily Valencia, junior Cate Cotter and junior Rebekah Wilson finished in fourth place, 10:01.72.
The 1,600-meter relay team with Zorski, Valencia, junior Annelise Lemieux and senior Crysta Gasiorowski finished in sixth place, 4:15.29.
The 400-meter relay team with Zorski, Harris, sophomore Cassandra King, and junior Katrina Massey finished in seventh place, 52.36.
The 800-meter relay team with Zorski, Lemieux, freshman Carsey Collins and freshman Brooke Ratliff finished in 11th place, 1:51.27.
Finishes in the field events were: in the pole vault, sophomore Genna Golab in fourth place with height of 9-09; freshman Audrey Morgan, ninth, 9-00; and long jump, Collins, eighth, 13-07.5.
The top ten teams included Walled Lake Central in first place with 66 points; Farmington Hills Mercy, second, 48; Walled Lake Northern, third, 44; Rochester Adams, fourth, 39; Lake Orion, sixth, 35; Milford, seventh, 34; Rochester, eighth, 31; Farmington, ninth, 30; and Novi, tenth, 28.
The boys team tied for 17th place out of 31 teams with 11 points.
Finishes in the track events include: in the 100-meter dash, senior Glenn Wood III in the time of 12.10; 200-meter dash, junior Mark Palmeter, eighth, 23.21; 400-meter dash, eighth, 51.09; 1,600-meter run, sophomore Bryce Nowik, tenth, 4:46.15; 110-meter hurdles, junior Colin Bastuba, 11th, 16.00; and 300-meter hurdles, senior Robert Spencer, 15th, 42.46.
The 3,200-meter relay team with Nowik, Taverna, sophomore Andrew Floros and senior Andrew Sesti finished in eighth place in the time of 8:22.09.
The 800-meter relay team with Palmeter, freshman Gabe Van Goor, junior Nathen Hutchons and senior Landon Butcher finished in ninth place, 1:34.49.
The top ten teams were Rochester Adams in first place with 83 points; Farmington, second, 81; Lake Orion, third, 65; Walled Lake Northern, fourth, 59; West Bloomfield, fifth, 35; Detroit Catholic Central, sixth, 34; Novi, seventh, 29; Milford and Bloomfield Hills, tied at eighth, 27; and Walled Lake Central, tenth, 23.
Results Oakland County 7th and 8th Grade Track and Field Championships will be in next week’s edition.
