Local, state, and national political leaders were welcomed to march in the Fourth of July parade, paying a $35 entry fee along with local businesses. Entry for nonprofits, families, individuals and antique cars was free.
Clarkston’s Independence Day parade is more than 70 years old, originally run by the Independence Township Fire Department. Several community groups, including Clarkston Optimist Club, Mt. Zion Church, Knights of Columbus from St. Daniel Catholic Church, and Clarkston Area Lions Club, took over the parade in 2011.
Crowds were thick the whole way from St. Daniel’s to Renaissance High School, July 4, filled with folks celebrating Independence Day. Eighty community groups, antique vehicles, politicians, musicians, and businesses marched down Main Street for the parade, tossing candy to the kids.
