The Clarkston Area Birders Club will not fly for the immediate future.
‘Birders are not immune from the societal changes made necessary in response to coronavirus,” said club co-founder Bill Haney. “Out of concern for the health and safety of our fellow birders and to remain in full compliance with restrictions and recommendations, we are suspending our monthly meetings for the rest of 2020.
“No other birding group anywhere has a venue as pleasant, invigorating and appropriate as The Gateway. With owner Steve Stroud and his fine staff, we have the most gracious, generous hosts imaginable. We look forward to being their guests again as soon as possible. We’ll see them for our winter feeding needs and take advantage of the discount given to all CABB members.”
Haney added that for the past two months, the club has had a presentation ready from member Dana Cruickshank.
“That is a pleasure delayed only, not denied, because early in 2021, Dana will share with us her outstanding photographs of birds and nature from her travels as well as from her own backyard,” Haney said.
“We can’t ask you to mark your calendar this far in advance, but we do promise to send word to you about an upcoming meeting of your Birders Club on a last Wednesday of the month as early in 2021 as it is prudent for us to gather.”
Traditionally, the club meets the last Wednesday of the month at The Gateway, located at 7150 North Main Street.
On a related note, club co-founder Bob McGowan has been at Beaumont Hospital undergoing some tests, and while his condition is not COVID-related, it’s more likely he has “walking pneumonia” as he is prone to respiratory problems, according to a club communication.
