Bounce back for win

Spikers left the Flushing Quad with three wins.
They opened beating North Branch, 25-10 and 25-19.
“It was a big win,” said Clarkston Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach Kelly Avenall. “We haven’t beaten North Branch before in this quad. It was a good thing.”
They lost to Flushing in the first set, 25-16. They bounced back and won the next two sets 25-8, 15-9.
“It was a meaningful match because it was the first we lost,” said Avenall. “It was good firm to know what it is to lose and come back from a loss. They weren’t frustrated or down. They chugged away at each point. It is kind of unusual for a young team to act that way but they are competitors.”
They also beat Oxford, 25-17 and 25-15.
Rachel Dickerson had 27 kills and four blocks. Brooke Chadwell had six aces, 11 kills and six blocks, Maddie Lightfoot had four digs, and Brianna Frakes had 74 assists.
The girls head to Rochester Adams on Thursday for their first league match. The Lady Highlanders move back up into the OAA Red this year.
“The girls are excited to start league play,” said Avenall. “I think Adams is going to be a tough opponent because they are going to prove they want to be in the league. It will be a good match.”
The girls head to the Grand Blanc tournament on Saturday – where they have won for the last three years. They prepare to go in and make it to the playoffs.
The game at Adams begins at 6 p.m. with the JV team. The tournament at Grand Blanc begins at 8:30 a.m.
