Boys peak at right time, 4th at states

After slumping to third place finishes at divisionals and the OAA championships, the Clarkston boys ski team pulled themselves together to win their fifth straight regional championship on Feb.22. The regional title punched the Wolves ticket to the state finals on Feb. 27 at Boyne Highlands where they took fourth overall.
‘They hadn’t skied to their potential at times this season. But they focused in for the regional. They did what they should have been doing all along,? Clarkston Coach Mike Foyteck said.
At the state finals Clarkston finished with 126 points overall. Marquette won the state championship with 61 points, followed by Traverse City West in second with 89 and Brother Rice with 121.5.
Eric Weiland led the way for the Wolves on the day, finishing in fourth place overall in the slalom and eighth in the giant slalom.
Additional scoring in the slalom was provided by Chris Bland who finished 16th, Cobie Bland (24th) and Brad Gale (39th). Following Weiland in the Giant Slalom were Cobie Bland (20th) Chris Bland (28th and Scott Huber (31).
Like their counterparts on the girls team, Clarkston’s boys team also won the SEMSL championship on Feb. 23.
