Brandon netters earn first league win

The visiting Brandon Blackhawks broke through in the win column in the Flint Metro League Jan. 12.
Brandon defeated Lapeer West 11-15, 15-6, 15-12 to improve to 7-13 overall and 1-2 in league play.
Sandra Oliver had 15 service points to lead the Blackhawks, while Brittany Kelley added eight.
Brandon coach Kim Rackel said Oliver ‘played exceptional defense? against Lapeer West, and also said setters Meredith Dura and Jessica Wise played well for the Blackhawks.
In the Grand Blanc tournament Saturday, Jan. 10, the Blackhawks went 1-4 on the day.
They lost their first three matches of the day: to West Bloomfield 22-25, 24-26; to Flint Powers 25-20, 13-25, 7-15; and Grand Blanc 22-25, 20-25.
The Blackhawks? lone win of the day came against Detroit Renaissance 25-21, 25-20. They wrapped up the tourney with a 11-25, 22-25 loss to Clarkston.
The Blackhawks return to action Thursday, Jan. 22 when they travel to Holly for a 7 p.m. match.
