Brandon-Oxford skiers have unlucky week on the slopes

Lady Luck was definitely not on the side of the Brandon-Oxford Ski team this past week as the skiers competed on both Wednesday and Thursday.
The team opened up the week strong on Jan. 21 against Fenton. Both girls and boys completed their slalom runs, but lighting problems closed the course before the giant slaloms could be held. The meet was canceled and will be rescheduled at a future date.
The Blackhawk-Wildcat skiers then returned on Jan. 22 to face off against Holly and the powerful Flushing.
The lady skiers split for the night with Flushing dominating both the slalom and giant slalom. Oxford lost 32-10 on the slalom and 28-10 on the GS. The ladies fared better against Holly winning the slalom 32-33 and the GS 28-33. Placing on the slalom were Karen Offer in first with 34.35, Heather Tiffany in third with 40.22 and Lauren Bayliss in fourth with 43.54. On the giant slalom, Lauren Bayliss took first with 26.47, Karen Offer second with 27.68 and Grace Auchterlonie third with 27.83.
The men lost to Flushing 25-15 on the slalom and 26-15 on the GS. On the slalom were Tim Smith in second with 29.58 and Ryan Hotchkiss in fourth with 32.44. Again, Smith finished second with 25.81 on the GS and Hotchkiss finished fourth with 26.55. The Brandon-Oxford men also had a tough night against the Holly Bronchos, losing 25-15 on the slalom and 26-14 on the GS.
The team takes to the slopes again on Feb. 2 against Grand Blanc and Heritage. Divisional and regional competition are also just around the corner for the skiers, with Mt. Holly hosting the divisional competition on Feb. 5.
