Knights of Columbus Council 5436, representing Our Lady Of The Lakes Parish in Waterford, has included Club Create Clarkston as one of the beneficiaries of funds collected through their annual Tootsie Roll drive for the past three years.
“Club Create Clarkston is an all volunteer organization that would not be the success it is today without the ongoing support from private contributors and organizations like the Knights Of Columbus,” said Robert White, who founded the club in 2013 with his wife Sue White, Leanna Haun, and Kathy Cole.
Club Create Clarkston, an arts and social class for adults with special needs, has grown from five original founding members to 53 active members today. Membership represent addresses from cities and towns across all of northern Oakland County, Robert said.
Haun, owner of Picasso’s Grapevine Studio and The Barn, continues to contribute studio time to support the program at their new location, 4215 West Clarkston Road.
Club Create Clarkston offers a class the first Monday of every month for half the membership and a second class the third Monday of every month for the remainder, Robert said.
“We try to keep each class size manageable to the extent that every member receives the instruction and support they need to ensure a positive and fulfilling experience from each class and project,” he said.
Art projects include painting on canvas, wood, and glass, glass fusion, basket weaving, clay sculpture and many other art and craft forms. Examples of some of these projects, on loan from Club Create Clarkston members, can be viewed hanging on the wall at The Clarkston News.
