School wasn’t in session Saturday, but that didn’t stop the Wolves from teaching their crosstown rivals Lake Orion.
The first lesson was hitting a slump doesn’t mean a thing. The Wolves hit a bump in the second quarter and Lake Orion slowly closed the gap to three points with two goals.
? We lost our way,? said Brian Kaminskas, head coach for the boys varsity lacrosse team. ‘Lake Orion is a good enough team that they took advantage. They took us out of our game. It took a few minutes to wake up.?
Clarkston came back after half time and scored two goals within the first three minutes from Connor Ward and Jordan Moore.
‘We moved the ball well,? Ward added. ‘We got in a little slump in the middle but we came out of it. We turned it around.?
It would spiral into 16-4 win for the Wolves. The final score led to the second lesson – showing the Dragons and fans why Clarkston is ranked number one in the state.
‘The whole team played really well,? said Connor Dziewit after the game. ‘Everyone came together. We played and beat our crosstown rival. It shows us we can persevere through tough challenges, come together as a team and beat our opponent.?
The Wolves opened the day by grabbing the ball from faceoff and heading into Lake Orion’s turf. Ward passed the ball to Dziewit for the first goal, scored 18 seconds into the game.
The boys scored four more on the Dragons before their opponents put one on the board with 1:44 in the first quarter.
‘We have been talking to them for two weeks, we are number one in the state,? Kaminskas said. ‘We have everything rolling for us and let’s not be the first group to let it slip by us.?
Kyle O’Grady led the team with five goals and two assists. Ward, Dziewit and Moore scored three goals in the game. Ward added three assists.
The boys improved to a 7-0 record with two wins against Rochester Adams and Farmington.
The Wolves began the week with a 18-5 win over Adams. Reid Kaminski led the team with four goals and recovered nine ground balls. O’Grady, Dziewit, Ward, Austin Egler, Robert Hall and Andrew Williamson scored two goals each during the game.
They continued with a 14-3 win over Farmington where Ward led with four goals and two assists. O’Grady added three goals and three assists to the board. The team had 46 total ground balls and 12 takeaways for the game.
They host Stoney Creek on Wednesday for Senior Night. JV begins at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
