Former Wildcat named interim superintendent

Marion Ginopolis, a former superintendent in Oxford, got a chuckle out of the school board when she smiled and said, ‘I’m changing from a Wildcat to a Dragon.?
Ginopolis beat out four other candidates for the Lake Orion Community Schools? interim superintendent position.
She’ll take on the position while the board continues to search for a permanent replacement for Ken Gutman, who left for the same position in Walled Lake earlier this month.
School boardmembers say their goal is to have someone in place by July 1, 2011.
Boardmembers cast a unanimous vote at their regular meeting, Nov. 10, ushering Ginopolis to the district’s helm.
She’ll officially start Nov. 22. Until then, Jillynn Keppler, assistant superintendent of administrative services, will continue as acting superintendent.
‘Marion brings a multifaceted background that plays very well into Lake Orion,? said Boardmember Jim Weidman.
Ginopolis previously worked as a teacher, staff development trainer, building principal, human resources director and assistant superintendent for curriculum instruction.
She spent most of her career in Birmingham but also worked in Berkley before her seven-year stint in Oxford.
Since retiring from Oxford, Ginopolis worked extensively in technology in education, training teachers and administrators.
She said that while she’ll be an interim superintendent, she has no intention of being idle.
‘I think that you’ve done some really good things in this district, you have great potential and I’d like to be affiliated with the district to see if all the things I’ve been training teachers and administrators in really can be infused,? Ginopolis told the board. ‘While I may only be in Lake Orion a short period of time, I don’t plan to be idle.?
