Goodrich track at head of the class in GAC Red Division

The Goodrich boys and girls track teams are proving to be a tough foe in the Genesee Area Conference Red Division.
Both teams took first in a league meet May 4 at Goodrich. The girls team defeated Mt. Morris 111-25 and Bendle 104-32, while the boys team defeated Bendle 104-32 and Mt. Morris 99-43.
The boys and girls teams both remain undefeated in the GAC Red at 8-0.
The Goodrich girls team won four of five field events in the meet: shot put (Jacqui Cornwell, 32?3-1/2?), discus (Cornwell, 106?4?), long jump (Nykole Pfaff (13?7?), and pole vault (Andrea Tubbs, 8?).
The 3,200 meter relay team of Samantha Minkler, Kaitlin O’Mara, Kayla O’Mara, and Janee Jones proved to be a formidable unit once again, winning with a time of 10:21. In addition, the 800 meter relay team of Michelle Elliott, Paige Plant, Casey Tubbs, and Melissa Luttrell won in 1:55.5, while the 1,600 meter relay team of Minkler, Elliott, Kelsey Meyers, and Jones won in 4:31.8.
Other Goodrich first place winners were Michelle Elliott in the 100 meter hurdles (17.4) and the 300 meter hurdles (49.74), Jones in the 1,600 meter run (5:32) and the 800 meter run (2:29.13), and Kayla O’Mara in the 3,200 meter run (11:32.3).
As with the girls team, the Martian boys team won four of five field events: shot put (Barrett Johnson, 46?6-1/2?), long jump (Jeff Decator, 19?4-1/4?), high jump (Andy Klumpp, 5?6?), and pole vault (Lance Keene, 13?). Decator also won the 200 meter run (23.56).
Brothers Charlie and Ben Richards also had big days for the Martians. Charlie won in the 110 meter hurdles (17.5) and the 300 meter hurdles (42.57), while Ben took first in the 1,600 meter run (4:54.05) and the 800 meter run (2:10.49).
