Grapplers roll through Rockford, stay undefeated

No matter where they wrestle, the Oxford Wildcats Varsity Wrestling team keeps on rolling.
Rockford, Mich., was the site of their latest conquest, a second place finish in a tournament featuring numerous high school division one schools in the field.
‘Every tournament that Oxford has entered has resulted in a first or second place finish,? Oxford Coach Scott Couch said.
Oxford had three wrestlers finish first in their weight class, 103-pound Jacob Peas1ey, 112-pound Calvin Cavanaugh and 152-pound Mike Myer.
They also had five second-place finishers, 125-pound Matt Frisch, 171-pound Geoffery Charles, 189-pound Josh Villarreal, 215-pound Prescott Line, and Heavyweight Dylan Smith.
Two third-place finishers, 140-pound Ben Ralston and 160-pound AJ Logan capped a successful trip to the suburb of Grand Rapids.
‘We had a very good showing. This was a tough, big tournament with teams from all around the state,? he said.
The B-team wrestled in the Imlay City tournament this past weekend, finishing fifth, but only two-and-a-half points behind second. They had one second-place finisher, five third-place finishers, and a fourth place in the weight classes.
Earlier in the week on Jan 14, the Wildcats swept their duel meet, beating Cilo 52-17 and Kearsley 76-6, grappling their way to an 18-0 record.
‘Even though the scores don’t show it, they wrestled us tough,? Couch said, referring to his teams matches against Cilo and Kearsley.
