Halloween show at Clarkston High

Boogah and Hoogah, two goblins from Schpottsylvania, are making an appearance at Clarkston High School Performing Arts Center, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m.
The two goblins, who have been around for 300 years, began during shows in 1989 and are excited to have one in Clarkston this year.
“For a long time we have been doing shows about singing, dancing, and Halloween,” said Boogah. “It is spooky fun for itty, bitty monsters from birth to 9-years-old.”
This year’s show is about how the duo, who are complete opposites, first met and how they became friends.
“There are still some silly spookyness but there is also a bit on how you find out about what people like, what they don’t like, where they live, their habits, things you enjoy about them and things you don’t like so much about them and how it all works out when you become friends,” Boogah added.
“They are some things about Boogah that Hoogah doesn’t like and there are things about Hoogah that Boogah doesn’t understand,” he said. “Like eating food at a table and sleeping in a house.”
Boogah and Hoogah are joined by their “Boo Crew” friends including Frankie and Bippety.
“It is the same characters, same show and some of the same songs so there is familiarity.” Boogah added. “But it is bigger and more theatrical which is more exciting for us.”
As with all their shows they also invite children to take part in the show by asking them questions, interacting with them and asking them to sing along.
“It gives them ownership of the show,” Hoogah said. “It gives them something to talk about with their families later. It becomes something the family can do together.”
The Children’s Theatre of Michigan presents “Boogah & Hoogah’s House.” Boogah and Hoogah had their first show in 1989 at Edsel and Elanor Ford House and have been touring ever since to elementary schools, shopping malls and theaters.
Janet Marie and mArchibald McCarty, Clarkston residents and founding directors of the Children’s Theatre of Michigan, created the organization when they were looking for fun things to do with their boys around the holidays.
“One thing Children’s Theatre of Michigan tries to do is create memories and traditions,” said mArchibald, adding a lot of families have had an experience with Boogah and Hoogah and when the goblins were walking around the Taste of Clarkston kids and parents asked where were they going to be.
“We firmly believe kids who grow up singing and dancing and using their imaginations they are going to be more mathematical,” he explained. “They are going to be more imaginative. They are going to be problem solvers. They are going to be people who want to find out interesting things.”
Tickets are $10 or a family four pack is available for only $30. Tickets can be ordered on www.tixcenterstageticketing.com. Proceeds from the show benefit the Clarkston High School Drama Club.
“What is fun we are working with the community in different ways.” said mArchibald. “We are bringing families into the town. There aren’t usually concerts and shows for little kids. The show benefits the drama club. A lot of students will be working with us – setting up the set, working the lights and the finances help to sponsor their programming.”
