Helping others by reading

A total of 660 brand new books will be donated to Children’s Hospital of Michigan thanks to Oxford High School senior and DECA Club member Courtney McGraw, Oxford Big Boy owner Chris Heins and the first-grade students of teacher Marion McGraw’s class at Pine Tree Elementary in Orion.
During the months of October, November and December, the first-graders read an impressive total of 1,322 books with the understanding that Oxford Big Boy would donate five books for every 10 the students read.
“You guys did an awesome job. I can’t believe how many books you read,” said Courtney McGraw to the class.
Dubbed “Reading Big for Boys and Girls: Pine Tree’s Helping Hands Read for Children’s Hospital,” the reading drive was McGraw’s project for DECA, the marketing club at the high school.
The project was designed to promote the Oxford Big Boy through its community involvement and charity work. It was also meant to instill a love of reading and willingness to help others in the students.
McGraw said the first-graders went “beyond” her expectations.
