Hitters ready to lead on the court

Spikers is back in the gym getting ready for another sensational season.
“I have a lot of returning players,” said Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach Kelly Avenall. “I am excited about it.”
The team has seven seniors, five juniors and two sophomores back for this season. They also have all of their returners back except for Jenna Coates, who graduated last year.
The strengths for the season lay within the hitters – returners Alexis Egler, Allison Reis and Jessica Frakes.
“Anytime they get a set we are counting on a kill out of them,” said Avenall.
The Lady Wolves’ goals include winning the league title and winning as many tournaments as possible.
“Our league is always tough,” said Avenall, expecting a lot from Birmingham Seaholm, Troy and Rochester. “Seaholm is going to be tough,” she added. “Troy is going to give us a run for our money. Rochester has some height and some hitters.”
The league games begin after Labor Day, with Seaholm on Sept. 14.
