Joseph F. Rehfus, of Lake Orion, formerly of Clarkston, passed away October 16, 2022 at the age of 85.
Preceded in death by his wife Patricia.
He was the proud father of Tammy (Tim) Taylor, Shari (Brian) Hanna, Janet Rehfus (Michael Weiden), Barbara Ellico (Jeffrey Bryson), Bob (Laura) Ellico, and Brian Ellico. Dearly loved by his grandchildren Alexandra, Joey, Nick, Andy, Megan, Brooke, and Shane. He is survived by brothers Jack and Paul Rehfus, sister-in-law Beatrice (Larry) Peyser, brother-in-law John (Norma) Schmansky and sister-in-law Judy Schmansky.
Joe was predeceased by his sisters Catherine Riggs and Mary Louise Caylor and brothers Bob and Bill Rehfus, brother-in-law Norman Schmansky, and sister-in-law Margaret (William) Pfahlert.
Joe was proud to have served in the U.S. Army as part of the 101st Airborne from 1959-62. He was a car salesman for many years first at the Pontiac Group in Lake Orion and then at Rademacher Chevrolet, which became Bowman Chevrolet in Clarkston.
He enjoyed volunteering for both the Independence Township fire department as well as the police department. He also owned and operated a lawn maintenance and snow removal company.
In his later working years, he was the building maintenance manager for Mid-Oakland Medical Professional Center and the Munk Medical Building.
Prior to having a stroke in 2017, he enjoyed traveling and wintered at his home in the community of The Villages in Florida, where he kept himself busy golfing, gardening and active in the neighborhood community.
Friends may visit Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston, on October 19 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral mass is October 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Daniel Catholic Church, Clarkston, with visiting directly at the church at 10:30 a.m. Interment at All Saints Cemetery, Waterford.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
