Kids in Motion Pediatric Therapy Services has expanded their services to the Clarkston area with a facility in Waterford.
“We wanted to be able to provide a close location for families,” said Mary Hydorn, P.T., owner of Kids in Motion.
She explained some families are unable to make the drive to their Highland location and are unable to receive therapy services for their children.
Kids in Motion offers speech and language therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy. They also have music therapy, massage therapy, and offer aquatic therapy at the Highland location.
“The physical therapists will work with the kids with their motor skills, exercises, stretching and working on skills they are delayed in,” Hydorn explained. “The occupational therapists will work on motor skills like feeding and sensory deficits. The speech therapists will work on speech deficits, articulation disorders and speech delays.”
They work with children of all ages from birth along with developmental disabled adults in their homes, at their outpatient facilities and in the schools.
Kids in Motion will provide free screenings but do need a referral from a physician.
“If a parent has a question and their child could benefit from therapy they can call and talk to a therapist,” said Hydorn.
Hydorn became a pediatric physical therapist in 1987 and started Kids in Motion in 1993.
“We started out with just myself doing contracts with schools and home help agencies,” she said.
Kids in Motion has over 50 physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech and language pathologists.
They also help parents by offering free workships once a month during the school year. The last workshop they held was estate planning with special needs children.
For the Waterford location they are looking into a music therapy group in the afternoon for children of all abilities and ages.
They accept all major health insurances and have discounted private pay rates for $95 an hour or $50 for half an hour.
