The Oxford Softball Team struggled after the long spring break to kick back into gear. On April 19, the Lady Cats were crushed by Grand Blanc with a mercy ruling (12-1) in game one and a 5-1 loss in game two.
‘The team was making good strides until the dreaded spring break,? said Head Coach Sue Roeher. ‘Now it’s like we’re back to our first game. Hopefully, we can rebound.?
In game one, losing pitcher Megan Bono had a hard night on the mound. The senior allowed three hits and handed over several walks, resulting in a total of eight earned runs, before the mercy call was made in just over two innings.
Catcher Jessica Anhel was the only player to shine offensively, scoring Oxford’s only run of the game with her third home run of the season. Coach Roeher said overall the team had ‘way too many errors.?
Game two saw little improvement from the Lady Wildcats, despite an attempt to step up offensively. Scoring Oxford’s only run was short stop Anne Marie Skylis, who went one for three on the plate. Anhel again showed her skill with three hits (a single, a double and a triple). She also had one RBI. Jenni Rhodes, Amber Cervantez, Amanda Crump and Megan Bono each had one hit.
Junior Cervantez was the losing pitcher after seven innings with seven hits and five earned runs.
