LO Cheer team looking to finals

Their season is winding down, but the Lake Orion High School varsity competitive cheerleading team is far from letting go of their competitive edge now.
Coach Nancy de Avila said she is pleased with her team’s performances so far this year, having started the season with a fourth place finish in the Oxford Invitational and a second place finish in the Lake Orion Invitational.
The Dragons went on to take third in the league competition and second at the DeWitt Classic. The team competes in the regional competition in Rochester on March 6, and hope to be a part of the state finals in Grand Rapids on March 13.
‘Things have been going well…we have a big battle for our regional,? said de Avila. ‘We need to place first or second there to get into the state finals.?
Lake Orion’s region is new this year and de Avila said the team has also been dealing with inexperience.
‘With such a young team, it will be a tough competition,? she said. ‘But they have improved weekly. We’re battling the inexperience bug this year.?
The team has been focusing the past couple of weeks on translating their athletic talent into performance, according to de Avila.
‘It’s been a lot of fun and an interesting challenge working with so many younger kids,? she said. ‘They do have some performance issues…the last two weeks have been our best weeks of practice yet.?
