Local businesses have hand in Oak Park ‘Extreme Makeover? home

Lake Orion Ace Hardware general manager Chris Bishop and Mike Hamilton of Hamilton and Sons weren’t ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition? fans before, but they are now.
Both businesses were able to lend a hand to the work done on a home in Oak Park, which was chosen for a recent edition of the popular Sunday-night program. Kohler donated one of their generators, sold by Ace Hardware in Lake Orion and Oxford, for the newly remodeled house.
‘Kohler donated the generator and (Ace Hardware) donated the installation,? said Bishop. ‘We also donated the sound-proof casing for the generator.?
Bishop said the generator was installed for use in the home when the power goes out, to back up medical equipment.
‘We were approached by Kohler about doing this,? Bishop explained. ‘This was a pretty big-scale operation. ‘Extreme Makover: Home Edition? is one of the most-watched shows in prime time on Sunday nights.?
The generator donated to the home retails for between $1,500 and $1,800. Hamilton and Sons, in business in Lake Orion for 26 years, donated their electrical service to hook up the generator.
‘We do the generator installations for Ace,? explained Mike Hamilton. ‘It was very hectic there…they had close to 60 people running in and out of the house, working there.
‘The family really needed this, and helping them is the most important thing,? he said.
Both Bishop and Hamilton said they had not really watched much of the show before becoming involved in this project, and both said they recently sat down to watch the program.
‘They basically rebuild a house in a matter of seven days,? Bishop said. ‘I’ve started watching the show.?
‘I’d seen some of the show,? Hamilton added. ‘I did watch it this past Sunday.?
