Local youth on stage

Clarkston students Thomas Shea, 14, and Katherine Shea, 7, will perform in Dream Arts Company’s “The Sound of Music” at Groves High School Auditorium in Birmingham on Friday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, Feb. 1, at noon.
Thomas will play Rolf, and his sister Katherine will sing in the chorus and ensembles. The show, featuring performers ages 7-18 from all over the metro Detroit area, tells the story of the real-life Von Trapp family through music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. Postulant nun Maria takes on teaching the seven children of widower Georg von Trapp, they fall in love, and struggle and sing to escape the Nazi occupation of Austria in 1938.
Tickets are $17 at DACompany.org.
