The next chapter in Oxford High School sports? long history began when the Oxford Boys Varsity Swimming team had its first-ever meet, a Duel Meet against Flint Southwestern Academy and Lapeer.
Lapeer beat Oxford 118-62, and Oxford beat Flint SWA 110-59.
In the 200 meter Medley Relay, Oxford’s A-relay team of Jacob Pierzinski, Jake Clark, Jimmy Walker, and Spencer Britt took second with a time of 2:13.18 against Flint SWA and Lapeer.
In the 200 meter Freestyle, Oxford swept the event against Flint SWA with Pierzinski taking first with a time of 2:21.13, but he came in second overall to Lapeer’s swimmer in the same meet.
Zach Venema took second against Flint SWA and fourth against Lapeer. Corey Bell took third against Flint SWA.
In the 200 meter individual Medley, Andew Raczka took first with a time of 2:35.09 and Travis Roth took third with a time of 2:44.31 against Flint SWA, while Raczka took second and Roth took fourth in the same meet.
In the 50 meter Freestyle, Oxford swept the event against Flint SWA. Spencer Britt took first with a time of 27.76.
Jimmy Walker finished in a close second less than two tenths of a second behing him. Scott McIsaac came in third.
In the meet against Lapeer, Britt and Walker took 3rd and 4th respectively.
Oxford did not have any divers for the diving portion of the meet, so they scored zero points, while Lapeer scored 10 and Flint SW took six.
In the 100 meter Butterfly, Raczka came in first with a time of 1:11.28 and Walker came in third in their meet against Flint SWA and Lapeer.
In the 100 meter Freestyle meet against Flint SWA, Oxford swimmer Taylor Keller touched out Justin McGarry of Flint SWA by four-hundredths of a second, winning with a time of 1:07.07, but he came in fourth against Lapeer.
In the 500 meter Freestyle against Flint SWA, Joey Tasch took second at 6:29.70, which was also good enough to take second against Lapeer as well. Zach Venema came in third against both Flint SWA and Lapeer.
In the 200 meter Free Relay, Oxford A team, consisting of Roth, Pierzinski, Britt and Raczka came in first at 1:48:58 against Flint SWA, and that time was also good enough for first place against Lapeer.
In the 100 meter Backstroke, Kyle Shick took 3rd against Lapeer’s backstrokers and Cody Fredericks took 4th, while Kyle finished first with a time of 1:17.57 against Flint SWA.
