Volunteers needed
Clarkston Community Schools is seeking two volunteers to serve on the Video Center board to oversee Independence Television located within Clarkston High School.
The nine-member board will meet quarterly to discuss budget as well as make recommendations for programing, staffing, and overall development. Each appointed citizen will hold a three-year term. The board will include the school’s video manager and township’s station manager as non-voting members, and the seven voting member comprised of a member from the Board of Education a member of the township Board of Trustees, two citizen appointed by the Board of Education, as well as three Independence Township citizens appointed by the Township Board.

Chili cookoff
The Seventh Annual Chili Cook-Off, hosted by Chatham House Interior Design, Lowrie’s Landscape, and Castlewood Custom Homes, will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 at 9539 Dixie Highway.
Bring your best chili for competition or vote for your favorite. Admission is free, but each person is asked to bring one canned good for Lighthouse of Clarkston. To compete, RSVP to Lowrie’s by Sept. 30 at 248-625-8844.
Book sale
Friends of the Clarkston Independence District Library, 6495 Clarkston Road, hosts the Fall Book Sale, Wednesday, Sept. 28- Saturday, Oct. 1.
The sale will include more than 10,000 used books, most priced $1-$2. Members can preview the sale on Sept. 27 from 6-8 p.m.
Coin appraisals
American Legion Post 63 hosts a free Coin Appraisal Night on Monday, Oct. 3, from 6-8 p.m. at 8047 Ortonville Road.
Huron Valley Numismatic Society members will examine and appraise coins and give you a verbal opinion on their value at no charge. No offers to buy will be made, but the legion hosts a Coin Show Fund-raiser on Oct. 15 for possible offers of purchase. Call Commander Keith Marbutt at 248-425-4410.
